My Top 10 Fav Post-Movie SpongeBob Episodes by LordODarkness84 My Top 10 Fav Post-Movie SpongeBob Episodes by LordODarkness84
Sometimes I get bummed out about how fallen SpongeBob has become, especially considering the success it used to be sad. So I made myself this as a reminder that there are still good episodes out there. These are some of my favourite episodes from AFTER the movie. While there are plenty of moments to be hated, I feel there are also some moments which just need more respect - I mean, if they first showed Moar Krabs in the post-movie, you'd probably hate it, while Face Freeze might become viral if it was in the pre-movie.

Anyways, I'm going to clarify why I like these aforementioned episodes:

#1. KRUSTY TOWERS is my favourite post-movie episode because it's built in a similar way to the pre-movie ones. It has a lot of witty gags and jokes, and it is cleverly written (never deny a guest, even the most ridiculous request; so Squidward becomes a guest and has Mr. Krabs perform all sorts of silly tasks)

#2. HAVE YOU SEEN THIS SNAIL? has a sad song which would pull the heart strings of pet owners. This is an episode with true emotion, another aspect which classic episodes rely on that VERY few modern ones have.

#3. IT'S A SPONGEBOB CHRISTMAS! came as a big surprise for me. It actually felt like a pre-movie episode; simple, sweet, and suited for all ages. A real Christmas miracle.

#4. NEW LEAF almost made me cry the first time I watched it. I found it touching how Mr. Krabs and Plankton finally settled their differences. It's a shame that Plankton was only faking it, but still a good episode nonetheless.

#5. WISHING YOU WELL has a good song and funny jokes, with an ending that will leave you wanting more.

#6. PLANKTON'S PET is similar to #2. Plankton getting a pet brings several emotional scenes, such as when he leaves Spot outside and loses him. The happy ending he gets later on really makes up for past episodes like "Plankton's Regular" or "One Coarse Meal", which treat Plankton like the bad guy just for appearing. This one, on the other hand, shows even villains can have soft sides.

#7. TREATS! is an episode that shows SpongeBob would do anything for Gary. It also ends with a good moral.

#8. FEAR OF A KRABBY PATTY... the very first post-movie episode! I had my doubts about it at first because of the different animation, but I soon grew to love it because it's built in a similar fashion to the pre-movie set.

#9. LOVE THAT SQUID is an episode where Squidward falls in love with a girl, so SpongeBob helps him prepare for a date. Guess what... Squidward actually WINS! In a typical modern episode - including the one this was paired with (New Fish in Town) - Squidward usually loses his goals. Plus, it was kinda touching to see SpongeBob and Squidward getting along after the conflict that's been happening in the past.

#10. HELLO BIKINI BOTTOM! tells about Squidward and SpongeBob trying to become a hit band. Of course, Mr. Krabs ruins their chances because of his greed. This episode seems like a great way to make up for "Smoothe Jazz in Bikini Bottom". And I'm touched to see Squidward and Spongebob actually getting along in the end. Let this also be known as the last SB episode worked on by Aaron Springer - who's been with the show since the beginning - before he left for Disney.

Honourable mentions: "License to Milkshake", "Shell of a Man", "The Lost Mattress", "Gary's New Toy", "Krabs ala Mode", "Friend or Foe", "Selling Out", "Enchanted Tiki Dreams", "Mermaid Man Begins"
Anybody wanna share their favourite post-movie SpongeBob episodes?

I would share mine, but I already released a countdown list of my personal top 25 modern episodes. I challenged myself not to include episodes from season 4, any episodes from Mr. Enter's list (including his honorable mentions), or any famously good episodes (Sandcastles in the Sand, Love That Squid, Suction Cup Symphony, The Two Faces of Squidward, Enchanted Tiki Dreams).

So here's my top ten:

10. Kracked Krabs

9. Gary's New Toy

8. The Masterpiece

7. Le Big Switch

6. Jailbreak!

5. Seancé Shmeancé

4. Grandpappy the Pirate

3. License to Milkshake

2. Banned in Bikini Bottom

1. New Digs

The one most people disagree with me on is Kracked Krabs. While I will agree it isn't right to base an entire episode off of a character trait, I thought it was funny and creative. Not to mention - and everyone seems to forget this - KRABS DOESN'T WIN IN THE END. Another crabs steals away his trophy. This WORKS because Krabs was a stealing cheapskate here, we WANTED to see him lose.

Rant over. Nice list, btw!

Oh, what the heck? For fun, here's my top ten season 4 episodes as well:

10. Whale of a Birthday

9. Wishing You Well

8. Krusty Towers

7. Shell of a Man

6. Hocus Pocus

5. Patrick SmartPants

4. The Lost Mattress

3. That's No Lady

2. Dunces & Dragons

1. Chimps Ahoy

Luckily for this season, I don't HATE any episodes other than The Gift of Gum, The Thing, and All That Glitters. Squid Wood, Best Day Ever, and Driven to Tears bored me, but all of the other episodes were somewhat enjoyable.

Let's see here. I'm actually not gonna' count Season 4, since it was the "transitional season".

Friend or Foe: Satisfying story. The jokes aren't too memorable, and I fail to understand how Karen got "Security footage" of Krabs and Plankton at school, but I still like this one, and feel that it actually did something kinda' nice for Krabs and Plankton that other episodes have botched. It actually makes One Coarse Meal even WORSE if you watch them back to back. I think that says something about it, though, as a Modern Spongebob episode can actually be criticized for ruining ANOTHER modern Spongebob episode, rather than ruining an old one.

Roller Cowards: Has a mix of funny and unfunny jokes, but is still pretty satisfying. I really appreciate that they actually ride the coaster in the end, rather than giving us a cop-out ending.

Sing a Song of Patrick: A lot of people hate this episode... but I don't. Maybe I need to rewatch it or something, as it has been a while, but I found some of the gags to be funny and unexpected upon first viewing. I also found Patrick somewhat relatable here, somehow. Not relatable to my adult self, but certain things he does are similar to my child-self, and that's saying a lot since Patrick is now one of the most incomprehensibly unrelatable characters in media. This episode did more justice to his stupidity.

Spy Buddies: Immature at times, but somehow bothering to actually throw funny gags at you, which is something many episodes totally forget to do. I also like re-watching it after knowing the twist ending, as it nicely clarifies the meaning of certain confusing scenes.

To Squarepants or not to Squarepants: I don't think anyone talks about this episode, but I actually remember liking it when I first saw it. I liked the humor, and I like Squidward humorously taking advantage of Spongebob in a way that doesn't seem too cruel. I also like how Spongebob uses weird logic, but not so much so that it derails the plot or makes it uninteresting. The one silent moment where Sponge throws a garbage bag at the dumpster and Squid gets this PERFECT facial expression response made me laugh and remember this one.

Spongebob Vs. The Big One: I know MrEnter and some other people don't like this one, and I totally get it. There are some confusingly unfunny jokes, and the plot isn't anything great. Why do I like it? Well, for one, it actually had a little bit of atmosphere and adventure, which is really weird. I mean, I know they just used somebody else's song for that one montage scene, but it was still really enjoyable. For two, I kinda' like the subplots and.... Oh who am I kidding? The real star of the episode is Davy Jones. That single joke got a bigger laugh out of me than anything else I've ever seen in a Modern Spongebob episode. Probably because it was so well-built-up and unexpected, playing out EXACTLY how the original show would have done it.

The Two Faces of Squidward: Not great writing, but it deserves credit for giving us the minor "Handsome Squidward" meme, and some other memorable bits. I don't know... I just really like handsome Squidward. He's funny to me. I really like the IDEA of Squidward getting handsome in-and-of-itself.

Sandcastles in the Sand: Satisfying to watch. Carries out its premise pretty well. It don't really see what people find so great about it, other than the timelessly cartoonish concept and delivery, but I'll admit that it's free of many of the show's usual plot problems and has a few moments of humor.

Mermaid Man Begins: I kinda' dig the crazy, weird series of gags that this episode dives into towards the end. Maybe they're cheap gags that anyone could write, but they're still entertaining to watch. I also like how they still leave it confusing and ambiguous exactly WHAT the heck MM and BB's backstory IS. You could interpret it as "Mermaidman being senile and forgetting", or as "The TV show being stupid and sensationalistic", and you could be right either way, especially since the fact that MM and BB are somehow both TV characters AND real life heroes.... yeah... It's a bit confusing. I might have put "The Bad Guy Club for Villains" on here, but I've seen Superfriends a lot as a kid, and I don't feel they did a good enough job spoofing it.

It's a Spongebob Christmas!: Not very funny, but the stop motion is great, and the episode feels very innocent and simple-minded in a good way, and the plot is perfectly fine. I don't think it lives up to the comedy gold of the first Christmas Special, but it's completely harmless.

I stopped bothering to keep up with the show some time during season 7, so I've missed a few that fans seem to like. I need to see Plankton's Pet. Most of these episodes get on here for at least half-understanding how to deliver a joke.
